Daily cash reconciliation, straight from the field.

An agent handling cash all day is a structural risk point for any lender without a same-day check. At close of day the Ustawi app reconciles the physical cash counted against the digital collection log — before the money is handed off.

The cash-custody problem this solves

A field officer collecting cash from dozens of borrowers is, structurally, a point of exposure — to honest error and to fraud alike. Without a same-day reconciliation, a shortfall might not surface for days, by which time it is far harder to trace.

End-of-day reconciliation makes the check immediate: the cash in hand is counted and compared to what the system says was collected, every single day.

How EOD reconciliation works

At day's end the agent enters the physical cash counted. The app shows expected (from the day's collection log), collected (the counted cash), and the variance between them. A clean match enables handoff to a supervisor or branch; a variance is flagged for review before handoff completes.

One important nuance: if some of the day's collections haven't finished syncing, the 'expected' figure can't yet be trusted. The app treats a pending-sync state as blocking a clean reconciliation read — you reconcile against a complete log, not a partial one.

Why this is a real control

This is a cash-custody control, not a report. It sits in the daily workflow as a gate before money changes hands, which is exactly where a control belongs. The specifics of the escalation policy are set by the institution: variances above a set threshold are flagged to a supervisor before handoff can complete.

FAQ

What does the agent actually reconcile?

The physical cash counted at end of day against the digital collection log — expected, collected, and the variance between them — before handing off to a supervisor or branch.

What happens if there is a variance?

The variance is flagged for review before handoff completes. Variances above a set threshold are escalated to a supervisor before handoff can be completed; the threshold and reviewer are configured by the institution.

What if some collections haven't synced yet?

The 'expected' figure can't be trusted until everything has synced, so a pending-sync state blocks a clean reconciliation read. You reconcile against a complete log, not a partial one.

Is this a report or a control?

A control. It sits in the daily workflow as a gate before cash changes hands — not an after-the-fact report.

Which phones or operating systems does the app run on?

The field app is available on Android; an iOS version is planned.
