Why build with Ustawi?

Real-world impact

Your work goes straight into financial institutions and the hands of field officers — where it changes how real money moves.

Hard problems

Build for lending, collections, compliance, reporting and financial workflows — correctness matters, not just UI.

Tanzania-first

Design for how Tanzanian MFIs, SACCOs and VICOBA groups actually work, rather than adapting generic foreign software.

Field-first

Build systems that keep working where connectivity is unreliable — offline cash collection, receipts and sync.

High-trust environment

Work with sensitive financial data where correctness, access control and security are part of the product.

Bilingual product

Build software used every day in both English and Kiswahili, by people in a branch and in the field.

What you'll build

Lending infrastructure

Loan origination, approval, disbursement and repayment workflows across the lending lifecycle.

Field operations

The offline-first mobile app used by loan officers and field agents for collection and visits.

Financial reporting

Reporting, controls and financial workflows — including BOT-aligned regulatory reports.

Compliance

Affordability, AML screening, classification, audit trails and regulatory requirements.

Integrations

Payments, identity/NIDA, credit reference, payroll, insurance and fiscalization services.

Multi-tenant SaaS

Platform infrastructure serving many institutions with strong per-tenant isolation.

Teams we hire for

Engineering

Full-stack, mobile (offline-first field app) and infrastructure — building secure, reliable financial software.

Product & Design

Turning real microfinance and SACCO workflows into simple, bilingual tools people can use in a branch or the field.

Customer Success & Implementation

Onboarding institutions, migrating their data, training their teams and making sure they get value from the platform.

Operations & Compliance

Financial processes, reporting and controls, and keeping the platform aligned with Tanzanian regulation.

Sales & Partnerships

Working with MFIs, SACCOs, VICOBA networks and integration partners across the country.

Open positions

No public openings right now.

We don't always have roles listed, but we're always interested in meeting people who can help us build better financial infrastructure. Tell us who you are and what you'd want to work on.

How we work

Built for Tanzania

Designed around BOT reporting, VICOBA cycles, check-off lending and field collection — not generic software translated after the fact.

Compliance by default

Affordability, AML screening, classification and audit trails live inside the workflow, not in a separate binder.

Kiswahili-first

Bilingual by design so loan officers and field agents work in the language they actually use.

Honesty over hype

Real, published pricing and no fabricated traction. We show the product as it is.

Field-first reliability

Offline-capable so cash collection and receipts keep working where connectivity doesn't.

Data protection & trust

Per-tenant isolation, role-based access and a full audit trail — because this is our customers' financial data.

Engineering at Ustawi

We build for difficult real-world conditions.

Multi-tenant architecture

Serve many institutions from one platform while maintaining strong tenant isolation.

Offline-first mobile

Support field workflows where connectivity isn't guaranteed, then sync reliably.

Financial correctness

Build systems where calculations, records and reporting have to be dependable.

Security

Protect sensitive financial information with role-based access control and auditability.

Integrations

Connect Ustawi with external financial and government services safely.

Reliability

Monitor systems and diagnose issues so institutions can depend on the platform.

Close to where money moves

The work spans the field, the branch and the office — because that is where our customers run.

Careers FAQ

Do you currently have open positions?

We don't always have publicly listed openings. When we do, they appear in the Open positions section on this page. Either way, we're glad to hear from strong people with microfinance-operations or fintech-engineering experience.

Can I apply without seeing a specific job?

Yes. Send a short introduction about yourself and what you'd want to work on — we read every introduction and keep them on file for when a fitting role opens.

Where is Ustawi based?

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Much of the work is close to the institutions and field teams we build for.

Do you hire remotely?

The work model depends on the role. Tell us your situation in your introduction and we'll be honest about what's possible for that role.

Do you hire junior developers or interns?

We're a small team and hiring is need-driven, but we're happy to hear from junior candidates. Show us how you think and what you've built.

What does the hiring process look like?

A lightweight process: an introduction, a conversation, a practical discussion relevant to the role, a chat with the team, and an offer if there's a mutual fit. Exact steps vary by role.

How do I apply?

Email a short introduction to info@ustawi.co.tz (or use the contact form) telling us who you are, your experience, and what you'd like to build with us.
