A device must be trusted before it can transact.

The field app is effectively a cash-transaction terminal in someone's pocket. So every agent's phone must be enrolled and marked trusted before it can authenticate or post a single collection — and login is by phone number alone, no company or email picker.

The security problem this solves

Because the app can record cash collections and access borrower data, an unenrolled or untrusted device authenticating to it is a serious risk — it could post fraudulent collections or expose borrower information. Device trust closes that door: an unknown phone simply cannot transact.

How enrolment works

Login is by phone number — there is no company or email picker. The phone number resolves the agent's institution, matching the identity pattern used across the Ustawi platform exactly; this is a confirmed, platform-wide convention.

A newly logging-in phone starts as pending enrolment, with collection and worklist actions disabled, until it is approved and marked trusted. Only then does it unlock transacting. If a phone is lost or stolen, an administrator can revoke the device instantly from the portal, and it can no longer authenticate or transact.

The portal side of the control

Device trust is not just a phone-side setting. In the web portal, pending-device approvals surface as a live badge in the Field Ops sidebar group, so an administrator sees and acts on enrolment requests. This portal-side behavior is shipped, real product behavior — managed in the Staff, Admin & Security app.

FAQ

How does an agent log in?

By phone number only — there is no company or email picker. The phone number resolves the agent's institution, matching the identity pattern used across the whole Ustawi platform.

Can any phone use the app?

No. A phone must be enrolled and marked trusted before it can authenticate or transact; a pending device has its collection and worklist actions disabled until approved.

Who approves a device?

An administrator, from the web portal — pending-device approvals appear as a live badge in the Field Ops sidebar group, managed in the Staff, Admin & Security app.

What happens if a phone is lost or stolen?

An administrator can revoke a lost or stolen device instantly from the portal. Once revoked, the phone can no longer authenticate or post collections, even if it later comes back online.

Which phones or operating systems does the app run on?

The field app is available on Android; an iOS version is planned.
