How commissions are calculated
Commission in Ustawi is calculated from real outcomes, not activity reports. Because a lead is attributed to its sourcing agent all the way to disbursement, commission rules can be tied to converted leads or to disbursed loan volume — figures the system already holds, rather than numbers an agent submits.
What commission is tied to
Commission rules attach to the outcomes that matter to the lender: a converted lead, or the volume of loans that actually disbursed. The distinction is deliberate — paying on conversion rewards closing a borrower, while paying on disbursed volume aligns the agent's reward with the size of the business they bring in.
| Basis | Rewards | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Per converted lead | Turning a captured lead into a disbursed loan | Encouraging conversion, regardless of loan size |
| Disbursed volume | The value of loans disbursed from an agent's leads | Aligning reward with the business actually written |
Why attribution is the foundation
None of this works without the attribution chain. Because the disbursed loan can be traced back to the agent who sourced the original lead, commission is computed against a verified event — the disbursement — rather than self-reported effort. That is what makes the calculation automatic and auditable.
A worked example
Suppose an agent's converted lead disburses and the applicable rule pays a commission on it. The commission is generated against that disbursement and appears in the agent's summary.
- Disbursed loan sourced by the agent — the qualifying event.
- Applicable commission rule applied to that disbursement.
- Resulting commission, e.g. TSh 45,000, added to the agent's performance summary.
Because commission is derived from the underlying disbursement and its attribution, a disputed figure is resolved by reviewing that chain rather than editing the number in isolation — see “Handling a disputed commission.”
