Configuring Loan Products

On this page

Product basics

A loan product defines its name, target segment, currency, tenor range, and disbursement method (cash, mobile money, or bank transfer). Every loan application draws its rules from the product it was originated against.

Interest & fee structure

Choose an interest method — flat or reducing balance — and define the fee schedule. Interest income and fee income carry different VAT treatment; see Finance for the exact mapping.

Approval amount bands

Ustawi enforces a multi-tier approval ladder — branch officer, then committee, then board — gated by loan amount band per product. is enforced automatically: no one signs off on two tiers of the same loan, and no one approves their own origination.

Requirement gates

Disbursement can require collateral perfection, active credit-life coverage, or a live employer MOU (for check-off products) before funds release — configure these per product.

Key Facts Statement

Every product auto-generates an disclosure — the Key Facts Statement — shown to the borrower before signing, so the true annualized cost of the loan is transparent and comparable across products, supporting BOT-aligned disclosure practice.
